Description
The Snake Bite Bandage with Indicator (10cm x 10.5m) is a purpose-designed first aid bandage for the Pressure Immobilisation Technique (PIT) — the recommended treatment for venomous bites and stings from Australian snakes, Funnel-Web and Mouse Spiders, Blue-Ringed Octopus, and Cone Shells. The unique rectangular pressure indicators stretch into squares when the correct tension is applied, providing clear visual confirmation of accurate pressure — a critical factor in effective PIT application across Australia.
At 10.5 metres stretched length and 10cm width, this heavyweight bandage is longer and broader than standard snake bite bandages, making it suitable for full immobilisation of an adult leg. Innovative stitching ensures even compression across the limb, while the extended length allows complete coverage from the bite site to the top of the limb. PIT works by slowing the spread of venom through the lymphatic system while maintaining arterial circulation; evidence also suggests venom trapped under pressure may become inactivated.
Supplied in a box of 6 bandages. A shorter version is also available for children or upper limb use. Not recommended for Redback spider bites, jellyfish stings, fish stings (including stonefish), scorpion, centipede, or beetle stings.
